Elmo Room (1-2 year olds)
Children in this room can still have their bottles. The goal is to transition the children to a sippy cup by the time they are 2 years old. This classroom has one teacher for every 4 children. DOT Tot provides diapers and wipes, as well as breakfast, lunch, and 2 snacks (as long as the child is here when the meal is provided). Children in this age group have a circle time where teachers go over shapes, colors, counting, read stories, and sing songs. They try to make it interactive so the children want to join in.
This is the age group where you begin to see biting issues. No one fully knows why a child bites, but a huge factor in this behavior is that these children do not have verbal skills and can not communicate when they need something or become frustrated. Biting can become a very effective tool for a child to get what they want when they don’t have communication skills. DOT Tot has a Biting Policy and our goal is to work with families to come up with strategies to eliminate this behavior. To see the Biting Policy, please contact us.
